    Basic Terms of the Programmer

    Plan Variants

Variants are schedules that refer to a certain channel and serve as alternative to the actual schedule. This can be useful in various ways:

    • Variants can serve as alternative in case you have to ponder between several options.
    • Variants can serve as substitute schedules, in case scheduled events have to be can celled or take more time than expected.

Variants are stored in the database and can be transferred to the actual schedule if required. Every user who is entitled to edit a program plan is also entitled to edit the corresponding variants. Typically, variants cover whole days, weeks or months. Variants belong to a user to realize the option of an individual scheduling.

    Event

Events are the basic elements of a plan. They are scheduled in the Programmer and Planner. An event is created by scheduling a specific version (of a program, trailer, commercial etc.) on a certain channel at a certain time. Depending on the denominations program and promotion element (trailer, design elements) from which an event is created, it is differentiated between:

    • Program events which can only be scheduled in the Programmer
    • Promotion events that can only be scheduled in the Planner

    Program/Program version

A program (film/series episode) is the basic element for administering most of the data in the ContentExplorer as it can be linked to various other elements: for example, contracts, license and material administration refer to programs. However, the sub ordinate version of a program or series represents the actual basic element of the Programmer, since only the versions of a program can be scheduled here! Selecting a version already constitutes an editorial decision, as the versions differ in its content: a PG12 rated version or a 16:9 video format version, the German synchronized or English original version.

    In-House Productions

In-house productions are produced in-house and have a length from 3 to 15 minutes. They are not considered programs but trailers, since they are not license relevant. These are the only trailer versions, which can already be scheduled in the Programmer.

    Schedule Sections

In the Programmer you can define schedule sections for a long-term schedule. The definition of a schedule section enables you to open certain periods of certain days all next to each other (maximum 90 days from today). You can check the correct scheduling of long-term series this way.

Example: If you plan a series for Monday evening for the next three months, you can define a schedule section and look at all Monday evenings of the next 90 days.
